The Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) Office of Law Enforcement Services (OLES) has arrested former Greensville Correctional Center Sergeant, Cortraez Terry.
According to the department, Greensville County Commonwealth Attorney Robin Quinn authorized the issuance of an arrest warrant for Terry on Sept. 15. And on Sept. 16 OLES served Terry with the arrest warrant at the Greensville County Sheriff’s Department, officially charging him with assault and battery stemming from a May 25, 2026, incident in which Terry was witnessed by staff repeatedly punching a restrained inmate.
When questioned, Terry admitted to the assault and was immediately terminated.
“The men and women of the VADOC do a great job daily providing public safety in our facilities,” said VADOC Director Joseph W. Walters. “The VADOC does not condone any abuse or excessive use of force and will hold any staff member accountable for acting in ways that are not in alignment with the values and principles of the VADOC.”
“The VADOC is committed to a zero-tolerance policy concerning inmate abuse because it is essential in maintaining a safe environment for inmates and staff and is foundational to the professionalism and integrity required of all public safety professionals,” according to VDOC statement.
Terry, listed in online records as 37, 6 feet 2 inches, male, is a defendant in several pending lawsuits filed this year: a small claims suit on March 17 and  a civil suit on May 28. While unclear how or if they are related to his alleged actions in May, they may indicate Terry’s state of mind.
