Henrico Library Kicks off 2023 Summer Reading Challenge

By: Maria-Paula

The Henrico County Public Library recently kicked off its 2023 Summer Reading program for readers of all ages. Under the theme, “All Together Now,” this year’s challenge celebrates kindness, friendship and unity through reading.

While during last year’s challenge, participants read close to 80,000 books, the program aims to encourage the community to read collectively 100,000 books through to August 15 this year.

Participants in the challenge will set their own reading goals, log their reading and learning activities and receive prizes as they advance. For signing up, they will receive a pencil and a bookmark and later get included in a gift card drawing when they complete their first learning activity.

Sponsored by the Friends of Henrico County Public Library, the program will reward participants throughout the summer, starting with a “progress prize” in July, a color-your-own bandana for children, a Rubik’s Cube for teens or a mug for adults.

Children and teens who complete the program will be privileged to select a free, new, book while adults will receive a voucher for a free book from the Friends of the Library Book Sale.

Participants can also enter a draw to win grand prizes, including a Nintendo Switch Mario Choose One Bundle, a Brother xr3774 Sewing and Quilting Machine, a family membership to the Children’s Museum of Richmond, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden or Science Museum of Richmond.
