Basketball teams from the University of Richmond, VCU and other member schools took their first step toward March Madness as the Atlantic 10 Conference hosted its Men’s and Women’s Basketball Media Day recently in Washington.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Henrico Sports & Events Center will host the A10 Women’s Basketball Championship in March, with the winner advancing to the NCAA Division I championship tournament. The county facility is slated to host the event through 2029.

A10 Media Day gave coaches and student athletes from all 14-member schools an opportunity to highlight their hopes and expectations for the upcoming season.

“There’s certainly a lot of buzz going on here at Media Day, so tons of interviews, coaches, players and administrators. Everyone’s kind of running around, interview to interview,” said Dennis Bickmeier, executive director of the Henrico Sports & Entertainment Authority. “For us, it’s about really getting that excitement going in our community and getting people out there to watch some really, really good women’s college basketball.”
