Members of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus said in a statement they are ” proud to stand alongside” Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger, Lt. Gov.-elect Ghazala Hashmi, Attorney General-elect Jay Jones, and the “five Black House candidates who helped deliver a decisive mandate for progress” in Virginia.
“The voters made themselves clear — this House belongs to all of us.” noted the caucus comprised of 32 members in the Virginia General Assembly.
The VLBC, which states that its vital part is a mission to “raise the consciousness” of other groups to the contributions made by African Americans to the commonwealth and the nation, invested nearly $500,000 in its endorsed candidates “because we knew what was at stake.”
“After a record number of our priority bills were vetoed last year, we’ve ensured those measures will reach the Governor’s desk again — and this time, they’ll be signed.
“This victory is a referendum on ineffective leadership, defunded public goods, and the politics of division. Virginians chose compassion, competence and community.
“On the campaign trail, we heard your call for relief, in your homes, schools, childcare, healthcare, and small businesses. We are ready to get to work to deliver results and move our Commonwealth forward, together,” according to the statement.
