Virginia LCV congratulates House Democrats for historic, landslide victory

Democrats had a historic election night up and down the ticket as they secured more seats in the House of Delegates than they’ve had in three decades (with more races still being called), while also sweeping all three statewide offices. Tonight’s electoral outcome delivers a strong, pro-environmental trifecta in Virginia, and sends a clear message that Virginians care about lowering energy costs, holding corporations accountable, and rebuking the chaos coming out of the Trump White House.

In response to tonight’s outcome, Michael Town, executive director of the Virginia League of Conservation Voters, issued the following statement:

“Tonight was an incredible night for Democrats who ran and won on a message of putting Virginians – not big corporations – first, addressing rising energy costs, and standing up for an affordable, clean energy future. By and large this was a message that resonated with voters, and the incoming majority – the largest in three decades – now has a mandate to deliver on policies that cut energy bills, hold big corporations accountable, and secure our transition to an affordable, clean energy future. After four years of stalled progress in Virginia, we look forward to working with the new ‘Conservation Majority’ to get this done.”
Virginia LCV’s Political Action Committee notes that it invested more than $3 million this cycle in field, mail, digital, and direct contributions. Our programs were responsible for 208,000 knocked doors, more than 650,000 pieces of mail, 8.5 million digital impressions, 6.3 million video completions, 42,000 calls and texts, and more than 400 mobilized volunteers.
